The Shingle House is the oldest house standing in the Village of Warwick, built in 1764. This was the first property acquired by the Warwick Historical Society in 1915. The house was built by Daniel Burt, Sr. and his wife, Hannah for their son, Daniel, Jr. and his new bride. Unique features of the property include remnants of the original stone house that sat behind the Shingle House, constructed for protection in the Warwick wilderness of early Colonial times.

The Shingle House is named for the legend of the exterior shingles, said to be hewn from a single cedar tree.
