The conversation will utilize Patricia Polacco’s highly acclaimed children’s book, “Thank you, Mr. Falker,” focuses on building compassion in children as well as the effects of bullying. Patricia Polacco is now one of America’s most loved children’s book creators, but once upon a time, she was a little girl named Trisha starting school. Trisha could paint and draw beautifully, but when she looked at words on a page, all she could see was jumble. It took a very special teacher to recognize little Trisha’s dyslexia. That teacher, Mr. Falker, encouraged her to overcome her reading disability.
For children, this guided conversation will provide a comfortable setting for teaching about bullying, learning disabilities and even asking for help. Adults in attendance will learn how to be a better leader to the children around them, whether as a parent, grandparent or just a citizen.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information or to register call 986-3236.
